DeepSeek R1 can be accessed in Base as an AI field shortcut, combining robust reasoning and chain-of-thought capabilities of DeepSeek with Base’s advanced data management and automation features.
By using this field shortcut, you can:
- Complete tasks faster: Unlike traditional one-to-one Q&A with AI chatbots—which can be inefficient—this field shortcut handles multiple tasks simultaneously, significantly boosting efficiency.
- Generate structured data: The field shortcut outputs data in a predefined structure and format, eliminating the need to reorganize outputs manually.
- Empower business operations: Combined with Base’s robust workflow capabilities, you can leverage the AI model to build a powerful operations solution, supporting activities such as sales follow-up and research report generation.
Moreover, this field shortcut ensures high-speed, stable access to DeepSeek, reducing wait times and streamlining your workflow.
Create a DeepSeek AI field shortcut
- Open the base and select a table from the left navigation bar. You can reference existing fields in the table in your instructions. The fields will be referenced on a record-by-record basis. For example, if you want to use DeepSeek to generate city descriptions, you can create a text field called Prompt. Enter city names into the field and reference the field in your command.
2. Click the + icon on the rightmost of the field name to add a new field, then enter a field title.
3. Hover over Explore shortcuts under the Field type section. Search for DeepSeek R1 or DeepSeek V3 in the search bar at the top of the shortcut list menu, and select the version you need.
Note: The DeepSeek AI field shortcut comes with a free usage quota: 1 million tokens, including content used for input and output. If you need more than the free quota, you need to link a DeepSeek inference access point or app on BytePlus. For instructions, see Step 4 to associate your BytePlus account’s API key with the corresponding inference access point or app ID.
4. (Optional) If you need the AI field shortcut to call the DeepSeek inference access point or app you created on BytePlus, click Connect an account. Enter the API key of your BytePlus account and the DeepSeek model inference access point ID. For more details on obtaining this information, see Get API-Keys on BytePlus.
5. Under Enter the command section, enter the command in natural language. You can click Reference in the upper-right corner to select field(s) in the table to use them in the command. Make sure to incorporate these referenced fields naturally in the command.
For example, to generate a city description, you can enter a command to write an introduction about the content in the Prompt field.
6. Turn on Extract more information to choose whether to create new fields to record the AI model’s thought process and output results.
Note: The above content can be found in the AI field shortcut column, even if the above options are not selected.
7. Turn on Auto-update as needed. When the content of the fields referenced in the command changes or a new record is added, the generated content will also be updated or new content will be generated for the new record.
8. Click Confirm. To start generating content, click Generate in the pop-up window. If you’d like to save your field shortcut settings without generating content yet, click Save Changes.
It takes some time for the content to be generated. You can check the percentage next to the field name of the field shortcut to monitor progress.
In an individual record, a blue lightning icon (as shown in the image below) will appear in the upper-right corner of the cell to indicate content generation is in progress, and it will disappear once the content is generated.
View the Generated Content
To view the content generated, hover over a cell in the field shortcut column. The content will include the thought process and output result.
If you selected the options under Extract more information, the corresponding content and reference links will be displayed in separate fields as well.
If you did not select the options under Extract more information, you can hover over the information and click Add that appears on the right side to add the information in a new field.
Note: You cannot modify the content generated by the AI.
Generate content from existing DeepSeek AI fields
You can reference different content in the existing command to update generated content or add new records (rows) to generate new content for the record.
- If you turned on Auto-update during field configuration, a request will be automatically sent to the AI model after you update the command.
- If you did not turn on Auto-update during field configuration, you can update the command, and then click the Update icon on the right side of the cell in the field shortcut column to send the new command to the AI model.
