A Base app’s list block is what turns a raw table into something an app user actually browses: pick a table, choose how the records should look, and decide what people are allowed to do with them from there.
Five list styles cover most situations, and all of them pull from the same underlying data.
- Basic list: Similar to a table’s grid view, showing fields of records in rows.
- Record details list: Shows a list on one side and the selected record’s full details page on the other.
- Card list: Displays each record as a card.
- Aggregated list: Combines several fields into aggregated columns.
- Expandable list: Collapses most fields by default, letting users expand a record to see more.
Note: You need manage permission for the app to add or edit blocks. On the Lark mobile app, list blocks can be viewed but not configured.
Adding a List Block
Open the Base app, click the Edit app icon next to the app name, and select the page you want to work on from the navigation bar.
Click Add Block in the lower-left corner and choose a list type under Lists.
A single page supports up to 10 list blocks.
Every list type shares the same starting configuration: choose a Table from any base you have manage permission for, then set the Data range, which defaults to all records but can be narrowed with Filter conditions requiring any or all of them to match.
Basic List
Drag fields to reorder them, and use the eye icon to show or hide each one.
New fields added to the source table afterwards stay hidden by default.
Click Aggregate Fields to combine up to 5 fields into a single column with its own title, and choose whether to highlight the first field.
Set a Default grouping and Default sorting, each supporting multiple nested conditions, and choose which of filtering, grouping, sorting, and search appear in the block’s top bar.
Turn on Split pages for pagination (not available alongside grouping), allow viewing record details pages, allow deleting records, and decide whether records can expand to show extra fields in one or multiple columns.
Record Details List
This type pairs a compact list with a full details page that updates as the user clicks through records, useful for browsing and reviewing content at the same time.
Configuration follows the same pattern as a basic list, plus an Image field option with a choice of display size, and a highlight toggle for the first field.
Grouping isn’t available here, but sorting, pagination, and record deletion work the same way.
Card List
Choose which field serves as the Card title and, optionally, a Card image.
Set the display to single or double columns, and choose whether field names and values sit side by side or stacked.
Everything else, from action buttons through to pagination, works the same as a basic list.
Aggregated List
An aggregated list is configured exactly like a basic list, just with some fields combined by default rather than left for you to set up manually, useful when a list’s most useful view is already a summarised one.
Expandable List
Also configured like a basic list, but most fields stay collapsed until a user expands a record.
When Expand record is turned on, choose which fields appear when expanded, their order, whether they display in single or multiple columns, and whether field names and values sit side by side or stacked.
Action Buttons and Automations
Any list type can surface button fields from the source table under the block’s Action section, with conditions controlling which records show which buttons.
You can also add custom buttons directly to the block, each with its own label and one of three actions: Go to page to jump to another page in the app, Go to link to open a URL, or Run automation/workflow to trigger a Base automation, including creating a new one from a recommended template.
Once connected, an action diagram shows what the button does; open it to edit the automation, or use the menu beside it to check the activity log or disconnect it.
Note: Users need view permission for both the button field and the record to see or click a button.
Managing a List Block
Click the ··· icon in the upper-right corner of any list block to access its settings, duplicate it, copy it to another page, change its background or border, move it into a tab, or delete it.
Drag a corner dot to resize the block, or the :::: icon to move it.
Practical Use Cases for SMEs and Startups
- Sales pipelines: A card list grouped by deal stage gives reps a visual overview without opening the underlying base.
- Customer lookups: A record details list lets support staff browse customers on one side and see full account details on the other.
- Executive summaries: An aggregated list rolls up related fields into a single readable column for a leadership dashboard.
- Detailed task boards: An expandable list keeps a page uncluttered while still giving anyone who needs it a way to drill into specifics.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why can’t I add more list blocks to a page?
You’ve likely reached the limit. A single Base app page supports up to 10 list blocks.
Can I adjust the column width of a list block, and will everyone see the change?
Yes, by dragging the column border. If the block’s creator adjusts a column, everyone sees the new width. If any other user adjusts it, the change is visible only to them.
What’s the practical difference between a basic list and an aggregated list?
They’re configured the same way. An aggregated list simply starts with some fields already combined into aggregated columns, rather than requiring you to set that up yourself.
Can app users add or delete records themselves?
Only if you’ve turned those options on for that list block, and the user has the underlying permission to do so.
Why don’t new fields from my table show up in the list automatically?
Fields added to the source table after a list block is created are hidden by default. Open the block’s field configuration and turn on visibility for the new field manually.
Do app users need special permission to click action buttons?
Yes. They need view permission for both the button field itself and the record it appears on.
The Right View for Every List
Five list types cover most of what a Base app page needs to show: a grid for scanning, cards for browsing, a details pane for reviewing, and aggregated or expandable views for keeping a busy page readable.
Pick per page, not once for the whole app.
