How to Use Quote Blocks in Lark Docs

Quote blocks are a simple way to make a document easier to read.

Use them to elaborate on your main content, highlight a key message, or set an important note apart from the rest of the text.

This guide walks you through everything you can do with quote blocks in Lark Docs on desktop — adding, converting, moving, copying, and removing them.

Note: Only text and images can be added to quote blocks. Other content types, such as tables, spreadsheets, and Base, are not supported.

How to Add a Quote Block

Open your document. You can either add a blank quote block or convert existing content into one.

Add a Blank Quote Block

There are several ways to insert a fresh quote block — pick whichever feels most natural to you.

  • Toolbar: Hover over the beginning of a blank line, click the + icon on the left, then click the Quote icon in the toolbar.

  • Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl + Shift + > (Windows) or Command + Shift + > (Mac) when the cursor is at the beginning of a blank line.
  • Insert below content: Hover over any content, click the drag handle icon on the left, then click Insert Below and the Quote icon to add a blank quote block beneath it.

Tip: The Markdown method (> then space) is the fastest once you get used to it — no menus, no clicking, just type and go.

Convert Existing Content Into a Quote Block

Already written something you want to quote? Convert it in place using any of these methods:

  • Block menu: Hover over any content, click the drag handle icon on the left, then click the Quote icon in the toolbar.
  • Slash command: Press the spacebar at any position in the existing content, type /quote, and click Quote. Remember to manually delete the space you entered afterwards.
  • Markdown syntax: Enter > at the beginning of the line of existing content, then press the spacebar.
  • Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl + Shift + > (Windows) or Command + Shift + > (Mac).

When to Use Quote Blocks

Quote blocks are more than decoration — they guide your reader’s eye. Here are practical ways to use them:

  • Highlight key takeaways: Pull out the single most important message of a section so it stands out.
  • Add side notes: Separate supporting context or reminders from the main flow of the document.
  • Feature a quotation: Set apart a customer testimonial, a leadership message, or a reference from another source.
  • Improve scannability: Break up long stretches of text so busy readers can find the essentials faster.
