Happy Dumpling's Day

It’s Dumpling Day (aka Duanwu Festival) today!

For those of you who didn’t know, this is one of the major festivals that has been celebrated for thousands of years as part of Chinese culture.

The festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar.

The focus of the celebrations includes eating rice dumplings, drinking realgar wine and racing dragon boats.

In Malaysia though, the dumplings are wrapped bamboo leaves, instead of the traditional lotus leaves.

In the old days, probably still practised in Hong Kong, racing dragon boats is still part of the tradition.
