Writing a message at 11pm and sending it at 11pm are two different decisions.
Scheduling lets you separate them: write the message when it is on your mind, and have Lark deliver it when it is actually a reasonable time for the person receiving it.
It works across time zones and for anyone who simply will not be back at their desk until later.
Scheduling a Message
Write your message as normal, then click the Schedule message icon next to Send.
Set the date and time you want the message sent, based on your own time zone. Lark shows you the date and local time this works out to for the recipient, so you are not doing the time zone maths yourself. Click Schedule to confirm.
Note: If the recipient has chosen to hide their time zone, you will not see the “Message to be delivered at recipient’s local time” prompt. You can still schedule the message; you simply will not see the converted time.
You will get a notification once the message actually sends.
Editing a Scheduled Message
Open the chat and you will see a notice at the bottom showing when the message is scheduled for, with an Edit link beside it.
To change the wording, edit the text in the input box and click the Save icon when done.
To change the sending time instead, click the Schedule icon and select Reschedule, then set the new time and click Schedule again.
Sending a Scheduled Message Immediately
Changed your mind about waiting? Click the Schedule icon and select Send Now to deliver the message right away instead of waiting for its scheduled time.
Cancelling an Edit
If you started editing a scheduled message and decide not to change anything, click the Cancel icon, or press Esc, to back out without saving.
Deleting a Scheduled Message
There are two ways to remove a scheduled message before it sends.
Method 1: From the Schedule menu
Click the Schedule icon and select Delete Message.
Confirm by clicking Delete Message again in the dialog that appears.
Method 2: Clear the message
Delete all the text from the input box and click the Save icon.
Confirm by clicking Delete Message in the dialog that follows.
Practical Use Cases for SMEs and Startups
- Cross-border teams: Draft an update for an overseas branch during your own working hours and have it land during theirs.
- Leave coverage: Write a message for a colleague now and schedule it for the morning they are back from leave, instead of it getting lost in an inbox while they were away.
- Announcements timed to launch: Prepare a product or policy announcement in advance and schedule it to send the moment it should go live.
- Respecting after-hours boundaries: Write a message outside working hours without pinging a colleague’s phone at an inconvenient time.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I schedule a message in Lark?
Write your message, click the Schedule message icon next to Send, set the date and time, and click Schedule.
Can I schedule more than one message in the same chat?
No. You can only have one scheduled message per chat at a time, and you can only create a new one after the previous scheduled message has already been sent.
Can I schedule a message in any group chat?
No. Scheduled messages are not supported in topic groups.
What types of messages cannot be scheduled?
Voice messages, task cards, event cards, files, folders, images, and videos cannot be scheduled directly. Images and videos can still be scheduled if you add them inside a rich text message instead of sending them as a standalone attachment.
Why did my scheduled message fail to send?
Usually because something changed in the chat before the scheduled time: a permission change stopped you sending to the group, the chat no longer exists, the group was disbanded, the recipient was removed from the chat, or their account was deactivated.
How do I control what time zone is shown to other people?
Click your profile photo, go to Settings, then Privacy. Under Time zone display, choose Use device time zone, Select time zone, or Hide time zone.
What happens if I hide my time zone?
People messaging you will not see the “delivered at recipient’s local time” prompt when they schedule a message to you, since Lark cannot show a time zone you have chosen to hide.
Writing on Your Schedule, Delivering on Theirs
Scheduled messages solve a small but constant friction: the gap between when a thought occurs to you and when it is actually a good time to send it. Write it down, set the time, and let Lark handle the part that used to mean setting a reminder to send a message later.
