Malaysia Internet Business Summit 2014, one of the most important E-Commerce events of the year was successfully held from 15 to 16 October at One-World Hotel, Bandar Utama City.
Over 200 enthusiastic participants turned up to pick up the most valuable advice face to face from various E-Commerce heavyweights such Zalora, Twitter, WeChat, etc. Registration started at 8.00am; many could already be seen talking to each other and exchanging business cards.
The event officially kick-started at around 9.00am when Mr. Chan Kee Siak, the CEO of the Exabytes group gave an interesting opening speech and impressed the audience.
WeChat is no doubt one of the most popular mobile texting and voice messaging apps in Malaysia. Supported by 438 million active users, the strong presence of WeChat is undeniable. At MIBS 2014, we were extremely delighted to have guest speaker YE Leong (The Business Development Director of WeChat Malaysia), who gave an inspiring sharing on “More Than Just Another Chat App”.
The next speech, “The Secrets of Growing eCommerce Regionally” was nicely delivered by the vice president of Strategy at Singapore Post eCommerce, Timothy M. Lee.
This was then followed by a 15-minute break before the Marketing Director of Zalora, Luca Barberis stunned the crowd with his insights into the challenge of fashion E-commerce in Southeast Asia and some stories of Zalora.
“Internet business is not just about building the digital environment; it is also important how you sustain it.” In this session, we had Mr. Premesh, the founder of MalaysiaKini sharing his valuable experience.
Soon lunch was ready and many grabbed the golden opportunity to make new friends and have some refreshing moments.
After lunch, the event presented to its audience a panel discussion on the impact of marketing strategies on business enhancement. Having the CEO of Exabytes Venture, Clarence as the moderator, the 4 experienced panelists (Timothy M. Lee, Luca Barberis, YE Long and Premesh) impressed us with a highly informative and inspiring discussion.
Opportunities and threats are the important elements in the E-Commerce revolution. In this session, we have the Business Development Lead of Hishop, Shaun Lee who shared his opinions and experiences.
Next, the Senior Director of Expedia Lodging Partner Services Group in Asia Pacific, Boon Sian Chai came on stage and dished out important advice on “Global Online Travel Trends”.
Right after the 15-minute tea break, Daniel Ruppert, the managing director of Presto Mart gave an impressive sharing on “Groceries Online and In-store”.
This was followed by Francis Lui of Nexus Media. A famous online marketing guru, Francis shared on search Engine optimization and search engine marketing in his speech titled “Successful Digital Marketing Is Beyond SEO & SEM”.
Soon it was the last session for Day 1 and the second panel discussion of the day.
Moderated by CEO of Digital News Asia, Karamjit Singh with panelists such as Shaun Lee, Daniel Ruppert, Francis Lui and Boon Sian Chai, the discussion compared Online Marketing with Traditional Marketing.
Finally, Day 1 was nicely wrapped up by the much awaited Networking Party, the perfect opportunity for various experts, businessmen, CEOs, C-level executives, etc to get to know each other and exchange viewpoints on the current online business trends.
