How to Use Knowledge AI in Lark

Knowledge AI is an AI-powered assistant that draws on your organisation’s own knowledge to answer questions.

Ask it something and it can generate a response using materials you already have permission to access in Lark, such as messages, documents, and wiki spaces, rather than generic answers pulled from the open internet alone.

Note: Knowledge AI is distinct from the public-facing Lark Help Center AI Assistant, which searches Lark’s own help articles. Knowledge AI searches your organisation’s internal content instead.

What You Can Use Knowledge AI For

  • Finding organisational knowledge and business information: Retrieve policies, project updates, and meeting notes by asking a direct question, such as what the current status of a specific project is.
  • Getting business suggestions: Combine organisational knowledge with internet resources for actionable advice, such as optimisation strategies for a project.
  • Searching for vague information: Locate content even when the details are unclear, such as which meeting a particular topic was discussed in.
  • Generating content: Draft material such as event speeches using your organisation’s own knowledge as a source.

Note: If you are using the trial version of Knowledge AI, the organisational knowledge scope is limited to the files you have uploaded yourself and does not include other materials you can access in Lark. To use the full version, contact your Customer Success Manager.

Opening Knowledge AI

Open the Lark desktop app and click Knowledge AI from the left navigation bar, or from the pinned Chats section in Messenger.

You can also use Knowledge AI directly in your browser, or access it from entry points such as recommended questions or automatic answers that appear elsewhere in Lark’s search features.

Asking a Question

Enter your question in the chat box. You can attach an image alongside your question, and choose whether to use web search, which model to use, and what knowledge scope to draw from.

  • Web search: Turn on Web Search to use information from the web as an additional source.
  • Select model: Click the model icon to choose which model answers your question.
  • Knowledge scope: Turn on Use Organization Knowledge to grant access to messages, documents, wiki spaces, and other materials you already have permission to view in Lark, or specify a narrower scope. Web search and knowledge scope can be used together or separately. To add more files to the scope, click Upload.

Reading the Response and Its References

The response includes numbered endnotes pointing to its sources.

Clicking an endnote takes you to the corresponding information source directly. Reference materials also appear at the bottom of the response as a list; click the info icon next to a reference to view its permission details, or click the material link itself to go straight to the source.

Acting on a Response

A response supports several follow-up actions from its toolbar:

  • Share: Share the response as a copied image, a downloaded image, a copied link, or directly to a chat.
  • Export to Docs: Turn the response into an editable Lark document.
  • Regenerate: Change the search scope and regenerate the response, or click Adjust References and use the eye icon next to a reference to include or exclude that material before regenerating.

Practical Use Cases for SMEs and Startups

  • Onboarding new hires: Let a new employee ask about company policies or past project decisions instead of hunting through chat history.
  • Status updates for managers: Ask for the current state of a project across scattered messages, documents, and wiki pages in one query.
  • Drafting first passes: Generate a first draft of a speech, announcement, or summary grounded in your own organisation’s material.
  • Tracking down details: Find which meeting or document a specific decision or figure came from when you only remember it vaguely.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the scope of organisational knowledge Knowledge AI can retrieve from?

It includes materials you have permission to access in Lark: Lark messages, Lark documents (excluding attachments within those documents), and PDF, PowerPoint, and Word files uploaded to Lark Drive.

Does Knowledge AI support third-party data sources?

No. Its knowledge scope covers Lark’s own messages, documents, and uploaded files, not external systems.

Can Knowledge AI retrieve data I don’t already have permission to see?

No. It strictly follows your existing permissions and performs permission verification based on your identity before retrieving anything.

Is anything I type into Knowledge AI used to train the underlying model?

No. All interaction data is encrypted and stored according to Lark’s data security standards, and neither your input nor the generated content is used for model training.

How is Knowledge AI different from the Lark Help Center AI Assistant?

The Help Center AI Assistant searches Lark’s own published help articles to answer product questions. Knowledge AI instead searches your organisation’s internal messages, documents, and wiki spaces to answer questions specific to your business.

How can I give feedback on a Knowledge AI response?

Click the Dislike icon at the bottom of any response, or open the Menu icon in the upper-left corner and select Submit Feedback from the Lark desktop app.

Your Organisation’s Knowledge, One Question Away

Instead of digging through old messages and documents to find what someone already wrote down, Knowledge AI turns your organisation’s own materials into answers you can ask for directly, complete with sources you can verify.
