During the pandemic, most people took their business online for the first time. In this digital world, every business needs a social media presence to connect to customers and build a stronger relationship with them.

Beyond getting your business on social media, being on the right social media platform is also important to market your business more effectively.

A brand’s social media presence can impact people’s perception of the brand positively or negatively, which means online presence has become part of the brand story.

To let the audience perceive your brand positively, it is vital to determine the right platform for your business. We’re glad that the panelists have shown the audience how to choose the right social media platform.

Essential Tips for Choosing the Right Social Media Platform

Some key notes from this panel discussion:

1. Know the people you want to reach

People go to different social media platforms for different reasons and for different consumption. For example, people go to Facebook because they want to know the latest happenings around them; while on YouTube, people are searching for something that activates like ‘how to…’.

Therefore, it is important to know what kind of audience you want to reach or the audience you want to build. For example, if you want to build your audience on YouTube, you need to create content that is very helpful to the people who are looking for you.

2. More than demographic

When targeting an audience, not only should you consider their demographic but also their emotional and mental state when they consume the content on different platforms.

For instance, audiences on Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok are more likely to consume the content for fun and being entertained; on LinkedIn, the audience is there to search for company information, manpower, etc.

3. Find the right talent

While many businesses started to use social media as one of the main channels to communicate and engage with the audience, the importance of hiring talents to manage the social media platforms is still underestimated.

The person who is responsible for managing your business’s social media presence needs to be creative, analytical, social, and human to build an effective social media community. Thus, companies need to find the right talent.

4. Content is King

Some business owners might say that they do not have the budget or ability to go for multi-channel solutions, but this shouldn’t be a reason to ignore the content part of social media.

Provide the consumer and audience with the content they want. When you are on social media, it is not about the number of followers you have on your page, but the engagement between you and your audience.

If you have thousands of followers but most of your posts gain only around 5 likes, it’s a sign that something is wrong with the way you create content.

5. Mistake is part of the game

Learning is key when doing AB testing to choose the right social media platforms for your business. This also applies to the type of content to post on the platform.

During the process, there might be mistakes and failures, but it is part of the game. AB testing enables businesses to try different things, make mistakes and learn from the mistakes.

At the end of the day, the mistake we had gone through before will help us in finding the most suitable platforms and content for your business.

Choosing the right social media platforms and having a social media presence help build positive brand awareness. Brand awareness helps to attract the target audience.

Therefore, we need to make good use of social media as a tool to promote brand awareness, let more people know your products and have a positive experience with your brand.
