The POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) are both email protocols that you are bound to stumble upon when setting up an email account.
Understanding the basics of POP3 and IMAP is important, as these essential protocols allow you to access and read your emails locally through third party emails such as Outlook and (Mac) Mail.
Bearing in mind that the task of setting up POP3 and IMAP protocols can be both foreign and intimidating, we will teach you the handy step by step procedures in this post on how to setup these protocols using Outlook 2013.
How to Setup POP3 and IMAP using Microsoft Outlook 2013
Step 1: Launch your Microsoft Outlook 2013 program. Click “File” from the top left menu, and click on “Add Account” from the Account Information. Click “Next”.
Step 2: Select “POP or IMAP”. Click “Next”.
Step 3: Key in your details on the User Information section.
Since we support both POP3 and IMAP protocols, you can select either one of them under the “Account Type” as your chosen email protocol.
Then, input “mail.domain.com” for the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
Fill in your username and passwords under the Login Information section.
Once you have confirmed all your login information, click on “More Settings…”.
Step 4: On the “Outgoing Server” tab, click the My Outgoing Server (SMTP) checkbox, which requires authentication as it is the current mail server policy to allow sending from mail client.
Step 5: Proceed to the “Advanced” tab and change the SMTP port from 25 to 587.
Click the Leave a copy of messages on the server checkbox to keep your email as a backup.
Click OK to close the settings window and click “Next”.
Step 6: Click “Finish”. Your email account is now ready!
