Penang Bridge International Marathon 2013

We’re not sure about you, but at Exabytes, we like to stay fit and healthy! That’s why, last weekend we joined the big crowd of 27,000 people for a marathon (okay, more like support the marathon) along the Penang Bridge as volunteers to give out drinks and cheering for the runners at Water Station 10!
The marathon started at 1AM where we gave out 3000 bottles of 500ml mineral water, 300 bottles of 1500ml 100 Plus and 6000 empty cups to serve over 27,000 of them. The task of pouring drinks into cups and arranging them on the tables seemed easy, but it was more daunting than we had thought. It required us to be super fast, that’s why we had to split the tasks and each person was assigned unique jobs such as, opening the mineral water bottle, pouring water into cup, handing over bottle or cups for runners when they pass by, as well as cheering them up when they pass by our water station.
We had also prepared some musical instruments to cheer up our runners and ourselves, including portable speakers, empty 100 plus bottles, whistles, some mini bells, etc.
Unlike last year, the weather was chilly as it was drizzling that day, but that didn’t stop the runners to finish what they came for and definitely didn’t stop us Exabees to cheer the runners on. Lucky thing we had our rain coats to protect us from getting wet!
Just like last year, this year too, we spotted a few runners in cute costumes! The best thing about them is, they still managed to finish the run even with their costume on! How cool is that? 😀 Some of the runners were also very polite, thanking us for the water given out and even throwing them in the bin when they were done. 🙂
The marathon ended at about 3.30AM and although we were very tired from the cheering and hardwork put to keep the runners going, we were very happy and satisfied to have been there to support the cause. Until next time! 😉
Exabytes At Oculus Game Jam Japan 2013
Exabytes is organizing Photon CGM Game Jam, a 36-hours game development marathon this coming 14 Dec and 15 Dec. This event is going to take place in Exabytes office in SetiaWalk, Puchong. Talented game designers, game developers and game artists from all over the country will gather as teams to create awesome games and have fun together in this 2-day event.
CGM Game Jam 2013 takes place in 3 countries; Japan, Thailand and also Malaysia. Exabytes is proud to become the organizer of Game Jam Malaysia — the first Exabytes event made especially for game developers community in Malaysia. Courtesy of GMO, the organizer of Game Jam Japan as well as the co-organizer of Game Jam Malaysia, Exabytes Game Jam committee paid a visit to Game Jam Japan which was held in GMO office in Shibuya, Tokyo last 9th and 10th Nov. The trip was truly a real eye-opener for us, as we learnt and witnessed a lot of amazing things while we were there. Let’s find out what went down in Game Jam Japan. Yoshi! Ikuzo!

As the game development process requires participants to highly concentrate, so we left the venue to avoid interruption and returned on the next day before the end of the development period.
When we came back, all the participants rallied for the final sprint.

This Oculus Rift device is a virtual reality head-mounted device, allowing the users to feel and experience like they are in the game. Each team was allocated with a device and they used this device to develop and also integrate into their games.
Some of them even integrated XBOX motion sensor into their game.
The clock is ticking and some of the participants look tired after more than 30 hours working on their games.
Yet they still fight till the end to optimize their works.
Time’s up! The emcee from Unity Technologies announces that the development time is over and put on his costume…
… and turn into a Mexican wrestler?? LOL.
Each team start presenting their works which they have put in real hard effort for 2 days.
After the presentation, it’s party time! Everybody celebrate their success with pizzas, drinks, beers and enjoyed the games of the other teams.

4 Useful Tips for Website Design
Does your website have a good design to compete with your competitors? Having a simple but useful feature can allow you to have high traffic on your website.
1) Image size
Images can help to increase your credibility. Make sure the photos you upload have the right size. If you choose to upload smaller images, it may affect how your customers see your products from their perspectives. If the images you upload are too large, it will not fit nicely onto your website. So think twice before making a decision on your image size. Try to go for neutral size.
2) Logo
Logo is an important feature on your website. It represents your company and may affect your company’s reputation if the design is not rightly done. Create a high resolution logo design and place it on upper left corner of each web pages. In this way, it is easier for visitors to click on your company logo and link back to the home page.
3) Color
Do not put “Rainbow” colors on your website. Try to choose and use neutral colors for your website as it makes your webpage look clean. Remember to use the colors that match your content or the text on your website.
4) Font
Choose the font size which is easy to read by your visitors. Do not apply “ITALIC” on the whole page of content. Highlight those important words or features you wish your visitors to notice. The easier the words can be read, the higher chances your visitors will return.
