1: How to Migrate Your WhatsApp from Android to iPhone
If you’re moving from an Android phone to an iPhone, you can transfer your account information, profile photo, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. You can’t transfer your call history or display name.
What Do I Need?
- Android OS Lollipop, SDK 21 or above, or Android 5 or above installed on your Android device
- iOS 15.5 or above installed on your iPhone
- Move to iOS app installed on your Android phone
Note: Using other data migration apps is not supported, and will cause migration issues.
- WhatsApp iOS version 2.22.10.70 or above on your new device
- WhatsApp Android version 2.22.7.74 or above on your old device
- Use the same phone number as your old phone on your new device
- Your iPhone must be factory new or reset to factory settings to pair with the Move to iOS app and move data from your Android phone
- Both of your devices must be connected to a power source
- Both of your devices need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network or you’ll need to connect your Android device to your iPhone’s hotspot
Migrate from Android to iPhone
- Open the Move to iOS app on your Android phone and follow the on-screen prompts.
- A code will be displayed on your iPhone. When prompted, enter the code on your Android phone.
- Tap Continue and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Select WhatsApp on the Transfer Data
- Tap START on your Android phone, and wait for WhatsApp to prepare the data for export. You’ll be signed out from your Android phone once the data is prepared.
- Tap NEXT to return to the Move to iOS app.
- Tap CONTINUE to transfer the data from your Android phone to your iPhone and wait for Move to iOS to confirm the transfer is complete.
- Install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store.
- Open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number used on your old device.
- Tap Start when prompted, and allow the process to complete.
- Finish activating your new device and you’ll see your chats waiting for you.
Note: Going to Files and selecting the WhatsApp folder in the Move to iOS app isn’t supported during migration.
What Happens to My Data?
- Transferred data doesn’t go to cloud storage as a result of the migration until you create an iCloud backup.
- WhatsApp can’t see the data you transfer.
- Your Android phone will still have your data unless you delete WhatsApp or wipe your phone.

2. How to Migrate Your WhatsApp Data from an iPhone to an Android Phone
If you’re moving from an iPhone to an Android device, you can transfer your account information, profile photo, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media and settings.
You can’t transfer your call history, display name, or statuses.
What Do I Need?
To transfer your WhatsApp chat history from an iPhone to an Android device, you must have:
- Either a Samsung Android, Google Pixel, or a device with Android 12 or above
- Samsung Smart Switch app version 3.7.22.1 or above installed on your new device, or Google’s Data Restore Tool, already preinstalled on Google Pixel and devices with Android 12 or above
- WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or above on your old device
- WhatsApp Android version 2.21.16.20 or above on your new device after transfer is complete
- USB-C to Lightning cable or equivalent adapters
- The same phone number on the new device as the old device
- If transferring to Google Pixel or non-Samsung Android 12, the device set as factory new or reset to factory settings
To Transfer Your WhatsApp Chat History from an iPhone to an Android:
- Make sure your Google Pixel or Android 12 and above device is factory reset, or you’re setting up new.
- Go through the new device setup and make sure you choose to restore data to the device when prompted.
- Have the iPhone unlocked.
- Connect the devices by cable when the Copy apps and data screen appears.
- Tap Trust if the iPhone warning appears.
- Proceed through copying screens.
- Keep the iPhone unlocked during transfer.
- Use the iPhone camera app to scan QR code when prompted and open WhatsApp iOS to export data.
- Finish transfer and disconnect the cable.
- Open WhatsApp on your Pixel or Android 12 on the above device. Log on using the same phone number used on your old device.
What Happens to My Data?
Transferring your data locally by cable means:
- Transferred data doesn’t go to cloud storage as a result of the migration. However, you may have sent this data to your cloud storage separately through Chat Backup.
- WhatsApp can’t see the data you transfer.

3. How to Migrate from an iPhone to a Samsung Android
You Must Have:
- Samsung Smart Switch app version 3.7.22.1 or above installed on your new device
- WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or above on your old device
- WhatsApp Android version 2.21.16.20 or above on your new device after the transfer is complete
- USB-C to Lightning cable or equivalent adapters
- The same phone number on the new device as the old device
- Your new Android device set as factory new or reset to factory settings
To Transfer Your WhatsApp Chat History from an iPhone to a Samsung Android:
- Turn on your Samsung and connect by cable to your iPhone when prompted.
- Follow the Samsung Smart Switch experience.
- When prompted, scan the QR code displayed on the new device using your iPhone’s camera.
- Tap Start on your iPhone, and wait for the process to complete.
- Continue setting up your new Samsung.
- When you reach the home screen, open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number used on your old device.
- Tap Import when prompted, and allow the process to complete.
- Finish activating your new device and you’ll see your chats waiting for you.

4. How to Transfer WhatsApp Messages from iPhone to Another iPhone
If you’re moving from an iPhone to another iPhone, you can transfer your full chat and media history using WhatsApp’s Chat Transfer feature.
While restoring from a backup can recover all of your chat data, the Chat Transfer feature allows you to transfer your full account information including all of your personal messages, photos, videos, and documents. However, you can’t transfer peer-to-peer payment messages and your call history.
What You Need
- iOS 2.23.9.77 or above installed on both your old and your new iPhones.
- Use the same phone number as your old phone on your new phone.
- Your new phone must not be registered on WhatsApp until you start the migration on your old phone.
- Your phones must be close to each other.
- Both of your phones should be connected to a power source.
- Both of your phones need to have WiFi and be connected to the internet.
Transfer Your Chat History
Old Phone
- Open WhatsApp on your old phone.
- Tap Settings > Chats > Transfer Chats to iPhone > Start.
- Tap Allow to “WhatsApp would like access to the camera” if it’s not enabled. You’ll use the camera on your old phone to scan the QR code on your new phone.
New Phone
- Open WhatsApp on your new phone.
- Accept terms and conditions, then verify your phone number.
- Tap Continue on Transfer chat history to iPhone and accept local network permissions.
- Use the WhatsApp camera on your old phone to scan the QR code on your new phone.
- When prompted, accept local network permissions.
- While your chat history is transferring, a percentage bar will track the progress. Keep your phones near each other, unlocked, and don’t leave WhatsApp. Messaging is paused during the chat history transfer. You can Cancel the process at any time.
- When you see Transfer completed, tap Next. You’ll see the Setup Profile page where you’ll enter your name. After that, you’ll see the Chats list with all of your existing chats.

Transfer Your Chat History
Old Phone
- Open WhatsApp on your old phone.
- Tap More Options > Settings > Chats > Transfer chats > Start.
