Video advertising is now a big thing! For one, it’s always more interesting to watch a video ad than reading a text ad, right? With so many new video ads created every day, how can you do it differently and do it the right way so that you can capture the heart of your audience?

In this post, we are pleased to share the ABCD Rule from Google that helps brands make the best YouTube Ads! Read on to find out more.

A – Attract: Attractive element in the Beginning of the Ad

Research found that 85% of video ads on Facebook are watched silently by users, while nearly 95% of YouTube video ads are watched with the sound turned on. Sound such as an Intro Music/Voice is part of the elements that attract the viewer’s attention, in the beginning, to decide if they want to continue watching your ads or not. Brands can use the sound element to grab the viewer’s attention and make them stay to watch your ads till the end. This ensures you deliver your marketing message completely. 

Adding attention-grabbing sound effects is the first step to consider when producing your video ads. Online ads aren’t like traditional TV commercials, where the viewers are more passive and unable to skip ads, except they change the channel. On the YouTube platform, there will be less resistance to ads. Brands can use only 3-5 seconds to capture the audience’s interest and convey the message before the viewer can decide to skip the ad.

Therefore, it is recommended to put the exciting part, which can catch people’s attention, at the beginning of the video. For example, using a series of action shots or inviting celebrities or influencers to appear on the scene will make people willing to stay and watch the entire video.

B – Brand: Mention the Brand Naturally

Besides using creativity to grab the audience’s attention, the most important thing in video ads will be showing the brand to the audience to make them remember. But how can we mention the brand multiple times without being too deliberate and direct?

Adding Brands Representative Elements

To mention the brand naturally, you may consider using products and brands representative colours in the advertisement instead of logos. If there are no product pictures, consider adding a watermark and overlays to put the logo in advertisements.

Tell Them Your Brand in the End

A suitable place to mention your brand is just before the end of the video. It will reduce the distraction or unpleasant feelings and allow the audience to watch the video ads and get the messages you want to deliver. This way, viewers are more likely to believe that you are not trying so hard to sell your products or services but provide excellent value or information to them. Use Attractive Brand’s Tagline

With video ads, brands don’t always have to show the name or logo for people to remember who they are. Using Brand’s Tagline will enhance the audience’s ads recall and deepen the customer’s impression. I believe that you still remember the “I will follow You” slogan from Digi until today.

Don’t Mention the Brand Directly

Putting the brand logo directly on the screen or making the logo bigger and bigger on the screen will reduce the desire of the audience to watch your video. The audience will become aware and notice quickly that it is an advertisement. However, if the brand is mentioned using voice, the audience’s rejection will be lower.

C – Connect: Connect the audience through content

Delivering clear and right contents is important to establish a connection with the audience. According to YouTube’s statistics, more than 70% of users watch YouTube on their mobile phone or other mobile devices (such as tablets). Therefore, complex elements on the screen will only distract the audience.

Mentioning the brand is recommended to strengthen the messages and become as expressive as possible. Moreover, using Close-Ups on video shooting, and increasing the font size of the words that appear on the screen can help too. This makes customers see the key points at a glance and easily understand the story of the content. Remember to always consider whether the content can be displayed clearly on the screen of a small device when creating an advertisement.

*Note: Close-Ups means a photograph or film image taken at close range and showing the subject on a large scale.

Using storytelling in an advertisement will directly affect the time the audience watches the advertisement. Brands can try to create content with a sense of humour or suspense elements to make viewers become more willing to watch the advertisement from the beginning till the end, thereby increasing ad recall and enhancing customer brand awareness.

D – Direct: Directly tell your audience what to do next

Traditional marketing channels are one-way advertising — the audience cannot take immediate action after receiving the information. With YouTube Advertising, it is possible to have interactive features that lead the viewers to do something. This is when a clear and direct CTA (call to action) comes into the picture. CTAs are extremely important.

If a brand uses the 5-second skippable in-stream video ads format, placing the CTA in front of the video when creating the ads will increase brand impressions. If the brand uses non-skippable in-stream video ads format, then it’s recommended to place the CTA message at the back of the video to tell the audience what to do next (such as asking them to visit the website, watch the next video or subscribe to the brand channel, etc).

Use more specific CTA descriptions such as “Download the App” instead of “Download Now” if your campaign aims at getting more users to download your app. Even if the audience doesn’t take the next step, the call-to-action message can still increase customer awareness for the brands.

Takeaways

A successful video ad must include a catchy intro and a brand mention (naturally/indirectly). It needs to connect with the audience and direct them to take the next step. Though there are several differences between public adnd private clouds, the main focus is usually on performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness vs security and resource availability.

The public cloud is incredibly cheap compared to the overhead costs of a private cloud. Moreover, the public cloud allows the companies to add resources, services, and infrastructure for quick scalability.

Large-scale organisations often utilise hybrid or enterprise cloud deployments due to their high efficiency and ability to combine the best of both worlds.
Public and private clouds are often compared on cost efficiency and optimisation of the resources.

This can be a complex question, but when it comes to bang for your buck, the public cloud usually wins out; however, cheap and almost unlimited resources can lead to poorly optimised workflows and cloud sprawl, where uncontrolled use of cloud resources results in overuse and higher overall costs.

Another significant advantage of public cloud services is that they are quick and straightforward to implement, tending not to require long-term leases and legal agreements.

This makes them well suited to smaller, more agile companies who might benefit from the ability to quickly respond to changes.

On the other hand, in a private cloud, the entire system, services, infrastructure, and hardware are developed for a specific client or organisation.

Businesses can work closely with a cloud service provider to create an efficient system within a particular budget.

A private cloud does not necessarily need to be managed by an in-house operations team either, many third parties offer managed private cloud deployments and will take care of everything for you.

Types of Expenses

Public clouds often allow you to hire a resource package from a cloud provider, which can be billed hourly or by the gigabyte.

Private clouds, allow for a wider scope of options such as having an on-site data center for which you have to pay for expensive hardware, allocate space for a data center, and hire operations staff to manage it, most of which falls under capital expenses.

Alternatively, this work can be outsourced to a cloud service provider who will manage the hardware for you or rent out dedicated hardware that they manage on-premises or off-site.

In the latter case, the provider will bear the expenses of the infrastructure, installation, and other operating expenses.

Repatriation

At scale the public cloud on-demand pay-per-use model can get quite expensive, there is a growing trend in larger organisations migrating away from this pricing model to the fixed and predictable pricing models of private or virtual private clouds.

Pricing

Most cloud services providers can offer customised solutions to their clients. Most larger providers offer both public and private clouds to cater to all businesses. Public clouds are very cheap compared to private clouds, but they are not always cost-effective in the long run.

The Bottom Line

Private and public cloud solutions have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Generally, it can be said that the private cloud supports more control over pricing and resource availability, and, if configured correctly, benefits in security, and overall efficiency.

However, for some organisations, notably smaller businesses or startups, public clouds can be more cost-effective and flexible.

Ultimately, the best solution highly depends on your organisation’s requirements, but it also doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. Leveraging the benefits of both with a hybrid cloud solution is always an option.

In recent years, many public figures have brought attention to social issues related to the fashion industry, especially when it comes to fast fashion.
People tend to buy more clothes than they need, especially fast fashion clothes, resulting in an increase of billions of tons of trash every year. According to RoadRunner, the volume of clothing that has been thrown away by Americans has doubled each year in the last 20 years, from seven million to 14 million tons.

To reduce waste, some people are leaning towards brands that either make high-quality, long-lasting products or use recycled materials to create their clothing. For example, H&M collected 20,649 tons of textiles for reuse and recycle in 2018.

In fact, many shoppers are now aware of the environmental issues caused by fast fashion, and prefer clothing that are of higher quality, long lasting and made of recyclable materials.

 

Fast Fashion? It will soon be replaced!

As mentioned earlier, the ethical implications in regard to sustainability is to promote slow fashion over fast fashion. Today, slow fashion has become a popular trend, and many brands with authority in the fashion industry are stepping up for change.

To initiate a change, major players in the fashion industry are taking effort to break away from seasonal releases of new styles and promote seasonless fashion instead. This is because seasonal releases of fashion encourage fast fashion. Brands will start creating higher-quality clothing that can last multiple seasons.

Upcycling means revamping clothing to match the style the person likes. It can involve dying, cutting, and sewing the clothes to make it appear new. Another major appeal of ReCommerce for consumers is that they can get gently used clothing for a fraction of the retail price.

Many retailers are now offering consumers the option to make after-purchase payments. For example, a customer can buy an RM300 item and pay only RM50 at the time of purchase. He can then make installment payment for the balance over the next three months.

The “Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) approach allows consumers to spend money that they do not necessarily have. This started among lower-end fashion brands, and it is now extending to the designer and luxury clothing space.

In 2019, there was a significant increase in the number of different types of cyber-attacks.

It is not surprising that the attacks against private and enterprise clouds are growing because the cloud industry is booming and estimated to reach a $354 billion value by 2022.

One of the most popular cyberattacks against an enterprise cloud in 2019 was when Amazon servers were attacked in April, exposing the records of more than half a billion Facebook users.

Similarly, the information of millions of passengers was stolen from Amazon Bucket that was hosting the data of two leading international airline companies.

Private clouds are essential for the smooth functioning of any efficient crypto company. However, attacks against cloud platforms have also made crypto-coins and mining companies vulnerable to ransomware attacks.

4. Mobile Devices Becoming More Vulnerable

The cyber security trends in 2019 proved that mobile devices and applications have become more vulnerable to cyber threats.

The increasing maturity and complexity of the malware, trojan horses and other viruses have contributed to mobile devices becoming more impacted by the cyberattacks.

According to an estimate, 27% of the companies that were affected by cyberattacks involved the use of mobile phones.

The high number of attacks against mobile phones in 2019 proved that mobile ecosystems’ security systems have not kept up with the evolving techniques of cyberattacks.

Smart devices are highly vulnerable to cyberattacks because hackers are becoming more proficient in such attacks, while there are minimal security options for smartphones and other smart devices.

The changing nature of malware also shows that they are being adapted to specific mobile devices and applications, making mobile security more important and sophisticated than ever before.

5. Numerous Ransomware Attacks

In 2019, there was a significant increase in the number of ransomware attacks. The top targets of ransomware attacks were software services, the medical industry and other public sectors.

The nature of the ransomware attacks has also changed because most of the attacks were coordinated among different groups of cyberattackers.

Ransomware attacks mostly targeted large-scale organizations and international enterprises.

Traditional phishing, new hacking methods and exploiting misconfigured enterprise clouds were the standard methods of ransomware attacks in 2019.

The Bottom Line for Cyber Security

One of the common points among all of the cyber security trends discussed above is the fact that cyberattacks are becoming more complex and coordinated.

The trend of heavily targeting a particular company with different kinds of viruses, malware and trojan horses simultaneously is also increasing.

It’s a story about a young man celebrating CNY with a 3D Virtual Headset and Glasses who couldn’t go back to his hometown for CNY.

This year, TNB reimagined the familiar Chinese Legend of Nian and how we could fight to win over the evil Nian.

We can win this battle if we fight “Nian” (COVID19) hand in hand.

The CNY ad brings out meaningful messages to the audience and creates a good brand effect.

After all, branding is not just about the brand, It is about how we remember and understand the brand value.

A Brief Introduction of TNB CNY Ad 2021:

A group of citizens in a small village believe that their wise master holds the secret to defeat Nian and bring back peace and prosperity for their village.

Well, the secret to winning is to ”spread the joy and energy among us to overcome any challenges together.”

WATSONS CNY #HAPPYBEAUTIFULYEAR​ 2021

Hmmm…I can’t really recall any ads from Watsons but this year’s ad really does its job in making people remember the brand.

The team invited many famous actors and YouTubers / Red People (known as Key Opinion Influencer) to participate in the video.

It was a brilliant strategy from the perspective of marketing.

For one, followers of these famous actors and YouTubers / Red People are sure to watch and share this CNY ad.

A Brief Introduction of Watsons CNY Ad 2021:

The ad is about two pretty ladies, Lian Jie and Liu Jie who used to be famous singers back then in the 90s.

But they ended their career because of a small fight.

When Liu Jie’s kids discover an old CD, they pakat with Lian Jie’s daughter to bring them back to singing together again.

Maxis CNY 2021 – Little Lion

Okay, to be honest, I am a Maxis customer but still I can’t recall any memorable ad from the brand.

To me, the Digi’s Yellow Guys from ‘I will follow You’ made a more lasting impression.

But this year, the heartwarming story of Maxis CNY video ad touches us.

The main message? The biggest wealth is the health of our beloved ones, especially for those who couldn’t go back for the celebration.

I especially love what is mentioned in the video:

“Our Family’s Health is the Biggest Wealth. Our family keeps us on our feet. Our health pushes us forward.”

A Brief Introduction of Maxis CNY Ad 2021:

A little boy dreams of following his family’s footsteps to become the best lion dancer one day.

However, no one in his family is keen on teaching him despite having asked them countless times.

No lion dance performance this year too. Being unhappy, he confronted his family.

The ending? He received an unexpected answer.

#GamudaLand​ – Rejoice in Harmony《家睦则达》

Gamuda Land came up with an innovative video concept which uses emojis as a representation of our emotions in virtual conversions.

It’s a creative idea that reflects the new norm of communication in 2021.

Although this ad is unlike any touching video mentioned above, it definitely cheers you up and puts a smile on your face.

The company uses a unique way of marketing communication to deliver the message of the property developer.

The video is not about the products or services. Instead, it brings out the unity of the family.

A Brief Introduction of Gamuda Land CNY Ad 2021:

Ah Bi’s family is struggling to keep their kopitiam business afloat, and it’s up to her to help everyone see eye-to-eye again.

How can this be achieved? Make all her family members reunite and work together.
