What are Email Forwarders?

Email forwarding is an automated tool help to redirect incoming messages from one email address to a different email address.

Let’s say you have multiple support email addresses for your business;

eg. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. These email addresses are handled by different teams for different purposes.

You do not want your customers to be confused, with which email to send to, and hence you can make [email protected] as the primary to receive the email.

2 Types Of Email Forwarding

Setting up email forwarders can help you to forward the right content to the right email address. Our Linux Small Business Hosting(cPanel), allows you to create two types of email forwarders. They are known as Email Account Forwarders and Domain Forwarders.

1 “email forwarder” work as a robot worker with 1 rules. So, you can create as many forwarders as long as it does not confuse and conflict, it’ll work perfectly for you. Email Forwarders have to be created one at a time.

Domain Forwarder sends all email to the domain that you specify. For example, if you create a domain forwarder for domain1.com to forward to domain2.com, any email for domain1.com will automatically go to domain2.com. Email accounts must exist in your hosting account in order for email to be delivered.

There are a Few Ways to Create Email Forwarding

Create an Email Forwarder in cPanel

*This method does not apply for shared hosting to free email services. 

1. Login to “cPanel” with URL: yourdomainname.com/cpanel

2. Click on ‘Forwarders‘ under Mail.

4. Fill in the information needed for the forwarding rule

Create an Email Forwarder in Webmail

1. Login to your webmail using URL: yourdomainname.com/webmail

2. Click on “Forwarders” under email account dropdown

Create an Email Forwarding in Smartermail

If you are using Windows hosting, here is the step on your Smartermail.

1. Log in as a user with your full username and password into your Smartermail using mail.yourdomainname.com

2. Click on the “Option“(no. 1) icon at the top action panel to expand the drop-down and select “Settings“(no. 2).

3. You will find the “Forwarding” option and fill in the “Forwarding Address” to complete the process.

*Make sure your forwarding email address is not the email account from free email services.

Domain owner means the legal owner of a domain name.

It can belong to the person or organization listed as the domain’s registrar as the owner of the particular domain name.

Domains typically have four contacts: registrant/owner, admin, technical, and billing.

There are few types of domain names, for normal TLD domain name, you can check the contacts listed using a WHOIS Lookup, if the WHOIS Lookup does not display the owner information, and it won’t be displayed due to the person’s/owner added with Domain Privacy Protection(WHOIS privacy service).

You May Be Curious, Who Is The Website Owner or Domain Owner?

When we first try to search for a domain, our mind will automatically pick up the easiest name to remember.

Due to the internet world booming started from the year 1999 or 2000, most of the nice .COM / .Net domain name has been secured by earlier internet adopter.

The first steps to launch a website choosing a domain name and then finding a suitable hosting plan.

However, choosing the perfect domain name can take a slightly longer time.

You’ve spent most of the time for the names, you also tried different domain suggestion tools, and you’ve finally found the perfect one.

You are about to buy your domain and found out that it’s already been registered by someone.

If you still can’t resist owning the domain name. Don’t stop here, you can do some hard work by contacting the domain owner.

This is due to the domain name owner must provide relevant contact information.

To perform a domain lookup navigate, you can head on to this site: whois.icann.org, enter the domain name and start checking.

As mentioned above, some domain names are covered by domain privacy protection. Hence, their information will look like this;

You’ll find more information about the IP address as well, but the above elements will be the most useful to you.

By using WHOIS database information you’ll be able to see when a domain is about to expire.

Let’s say, if the owner does not renew, it will be open up for public registration again.

Found the Domain Owner. Now What?

The first is reaching out to the owner via email and telling your interest in buying the domain name or business.

The second step involves you dealing directly with the domain owner if possible.

Or using a domain name broker who will handle the negotiation and transfer process.
