What happened at WordCamp Kuala Lumpur?

WordCamp—everything and possibly the only thing we’ve been talking about all weekend! It was an amazing session and we hope everyone who attended enjoyed it as much as we do. And, it was simply a fun meeting and catching up with some of you!

It was held at the Royale Chulan Bintang, and was attended by WordPress enthusiasts from different background: from beginners, to web designers & developers, and to the ultimate webmasters. For those who weren’t able to attend this session, it’s safe to say that you’ve missed out a lot on the intriguing and strategy-challenging topics discussed.

BUT, that’s will not be all. Since the participants were so keen on the subjects, WordCamp has shared the link to the speakers’ presentation slides. So, you are also getting the good stuff! I’ll be attaching the link to the slides at the end of this post. Feel free to go through them and learn!

At WordCamp, there are 2 venues that were concurrently hosted different speakers & topics. For those who were interested in technical knowledgebase or coding, the designated sessions were held in the Nasi Lemak Track. And while topics and discussions related to WordPress development, design, security et cetera were held in the Char Koay Teow track.

And participants did not need to memorize what was going on, at which track, at what time. WordCamp KL has its own app that tells participants the full agenda of the camp on that day! Pretty easy, wasn’t it?

– Ia boleh menjadi perlahan. Ini disebabkan begitu banyak laman web lain yang turut running di dalam server dan masa yang sama.
– Keselamatan tidak terjamin. Anda tidak tahu siapa yang menggunakan server yang sama, jadi jika satu laman web mempunyai memory leak atau digodam, tapak anda juga mungkin akan terjejas.
– Kekurangan kawalan dan prestasi server. Sekiranya server terlalu padat atau jika laman web lain mengambil lebih banyak ruang, prestasi untuk lama web anda boleh jatuh.
– Ia sukar untuk dikira kerana penyimpanan terhad (limited storage) dan jalur lebar (bandwidth) yang terhad.

Nama panjang VPS ialah Virtual Private Server. Maksudnya, kalau ada VPS umpama ada komputer ditempat lain sebagai server untuk pelbagai guna. Server ini sebenarnya komputer juga, cuma lebih tertumpu kepada web hosting, private file storage, emel dan lain-lain. Kiranya kalau kita beli VPS ni untuk guna perkhidmatannya saja , kita tidak akan dapat server atau hardwarenya. Yela nama pun virtual, maya, bukan realiti. Lagi power VPS tu lagi mahal.

Macam cakap tadi, VPS ni digunakan untuk hosting website atau blog. Ini memang merupakan fungsi utama VPS. Kebiasaannya setiap VPS mempunyai IP Address tersendiri . Segala setting dalam VPS adalah manual dan selalunya menggunakan Linux.

Kebaikan :

– Lebih murah daripada dedicated server dan anda bayar untuk apa yang anda perlukan sahaja.
– Lebih selamat. Untuk segmen server dengan betul, hos memasang lapisan perisian kepada pelayan anda, ini membuatkan server anda berasingan daripada server orang  lain.
– Lebih pantas. Anda diberi peruntukkan lebih banyak resources berbanding dengan berkongsi hosting.
Root server access. Anda boleh customize hosting tersebut untuk memenuhi keperluan anda dan mempunyai kawalan terhadap hosting anda.

Keburukan :

– Sesetengah syarikat server mengagihkan server mereka, dengan harapan setiap site yang sedang menggunakan server tertentu tidak akan sesak ketika waktu puncak.
– Lebih mahal daripada shared hosting.
– Jika anda memilih VPS yang tidak dikendalikan (unmanaged VPS), mungkin sukar untuk dikonfigurasikan, mengambil masa lebih lama untuk laman web anda running.

Pendek kata, bagi yang sesiapa berminat dengan VPS, boleh la cuba satu bulan dulu.

Dedicated Server ni abang kepada VPS. Selalunya dedicated server menawarkan spesifikasi yang lebih tinggi dan harganya agak mahal. Yang ini memang betul-betul komputer sebenar. Sesuai untuk company atau website yang betul-betul menguntungkan bagi menampung kos server. Pengguna akan mendapat full root access dan boleh lakukan apa sahaja dengan server anda seperti web hosting, VPS, VPN dan sebagainya.

Dedicated server boleh disewa atau dibeli sendiri dan sewa tapak untuk tempatkan server tu. Nak letak kat rumah pun boleh. Tak ada masalah. Tiada hardware atau server yang perlu dijaga. Semua dikendali oleh provider. Jika ada masalah atau rosak, provider akan handle. Yang penting bayaran bulanan jangan lupa.
Sesuai untuk website yang terlalu ramai pengunjung dan server lama tak mampu nak handle. Masa ini la paling sesuai tukar ke Dedicated server bagi pengguna VPS. Sesuai untuk jumlah pengunjung sederhana. Boleh juga setting untuk tampung ramai pengunjung tetapi tidak seramai dedicated server.
Jika sewa server/tapak, segala masalah berlaku (contoh komputer hang dan kena restart), perlu diberitahu pada staff dekat tempat tu untuk selesaikan. Merugikan masa. Boleh restart, shutdown, start, install OS sesuka hati, pada bila-bila masa di mana jua.

– Ianya selamat. Oleh kerana anda satu-satunya yang menggunakan server tersebut, anda tidak perlu bimbang tentang kesan yang lazim berkongsi hosting dengan orang lain.
– Sokongan 24/7. Oleh kerana anda membayar banyak wang untuk akaun anda, syarikat web hosting mengutamakan dan memberi sokongan yang lebih dan terbaik terhadap anda.

Keburukan :

– Ianya sedikit mahal.

Exabytes Treasure Hunt 2018

Whaddup guys? It has been a while since Exabees have gone around town to have fun. So, on a nice sunny weekend, we all went on a Treasure Hunt activity.

If you were around town, you might be shocked by the blue we brought to the heritage areas! While the usual treasure hunt confines us to a small to medium – scale size area, this is a tad bit different. The hunt covers the heritage area of George Town, Penang.

Our hunt? Go on exploring the vibrant town, take specific shots of food at specific sites, and put it all together to win. How? It’s a tic-tac-toe where we had to fulfil the different requirements along the rows vertically, horizontally, or diagon-alley (Potter heads, anyone?).
